Following our competition entry „Samba – architecture in movement“ the association „autofreies wohnen“ (car free living) built 30 apartments. Creating an ensemble of 5 terraced and town houses meeting passivehouse standards.
ensemble of 5 terrace- and townhouses as passive houses
The buildings towards the train tracks block the noise from getting into the courtyards. The playfully arranged townhouses structure the garden area into private and community parts. The theme of living in a green environment is underlined by the generous private outdoor space. Groundfloor and Duplex appartements are equipped with a south facing terrace. Condominiums on the stepped story feature spacious roofgardens. Constructionwise the building was erected massively. Allowing for a flexible inner layout designed according to the individual desires. Despite all the custom floor plans the Passivhouse settlement was the most inexpensive at the time of its punctual completion. The property measuring close to 5.900 m² has transformed into a green oasis. Instead of grey asphalt for parking the car free co-building group used the space for flowers and vegetables. All residents gave up owning a car and therefore play an important part in reducing carbon emission. Due to their commitment the „Klimaschutz Siedlung“ has been awarded several ecological prizes.
